The two beautiful clocks you see are new slimmer versions of the all-steel Black Bay Chrono. Their vintage design refers to early copy Rolex Daytonas, as clear as one might imagine from a modern Tudor watch with 200 meters of water resistance. 
With their black tachymeter bezel and choice of panda or reverse panda dials, they channel the golden age of sports watches while offering a solid, modern, unmistakably Rolex-Tudor construction across the board – case, pushers, bracelet, and clasp.
When I first saw the new Panda and Anti-Panda look of the steel Black Bay Chronograph early Wednesday morning, I realized that the chronograph version of the Black Bay had reached a plateau after steel and gold. If the greatest strength of the entire Black Bay collection is channeling the classic dream watches of the mid-20th century, this one does the job with ease.
As a hands-on look at two of the much-anticipated TUDOR steel sports replica watches, we didn’t just put our hands on them but also on digital calipers. The new steel chronograph is 41mm in diameter, 14.2mm thick, and has 49.9 mm lugs. At nearly 50 mm from the lugs to the body, this is not a small watch, that’s for sure.
However, our medium to large wrists has a very nice form factor, which I think is a sweet spot for casual wear. It’s 100% a modern casual sports watch and highly water resistant.
Regarding the two dial options, we have two typical choices regarding vintage-inspired sports clocks, which present a dilemma. Panda, or reverse panda? Each is ubiquitous from a design standpoint because, generally speaking, each looks good, and each tends to read very clearly. It is especially true for the reverse panda version of this watch. Not only is it beautiful, but it is also instantly recognizable regarding reading the time.
The new Panda dial has its charms, but in the field, the luminous white hands – especially the snowflake hour hand – blend in with the white beneath it, as do the luminous hour markers. It makes me wonder if I’ve ever seen a Tudor Black Bay with a white dial before, and I can’t say that I have.
While the two versions we experienced in person featured stainless steel bracelets, TUDOR offers a few different options for each dial configuration. In addition to the bracelet you see here, each fake watch can be optionally equipped with a black fabric strap, and here we’re channeling Paul Newman, a black leather harness.
